Setlist Scribbles: 12/20 The Battle & Blue Antidote @ The 5
Goodbye t' Jane
Last Saturday,
my band Cellophane Jane played their last show of 2025 at the 5 ‘O Clock Lounge in Lakewood supporting The Battle & Blue Antidote.
It was a ruckus, it was bittersweet; it’s all Rock N’ Roll bby.
In 2026, we’ll be taking some time away from playing live and focusing on recording a ton of new music. I’ve already written and arranged enough tracks for 3 new records:
“Balloon Gravy,” “Liquid Policeman,” & the record I wrote when I asked my fiancé to take a leap of faith with me and make paper junk for the rest of our lives (still workshopping the title on that one.)
“Have to Say” from the Lindsey record. This record is pretty much done, although I’d like to re-record it and take some time on the production. I’m happy with the direction it went.
“Debt Collector” from Balloon Gravy. A lot of times, I don’t have lyrics figured out and I’ll just mumble out something that sounds good enough to get the vibe out. Some songs are based on old ideas from songs I’d written previously and wanted to try again in a new light. This one is based on some riffs I wrote for an old band I was in called The Tom Katlees that turned into the song “California Baby” off our record Vesper that I recorded and produced back in 2018.
“A Soggy Salute” from Liquid Policeman. Then there’s tracks where all I’ve got is a funky idea and nothing else. Lyrics haven’t hit me yet, but we’ll get there when the time is right. All the tracks for Liquid Policeman are water themed in some way. This one sounds a bit like Thin Lizzy meets King Gizzard.
A Party Of Cranes, Balloon Gravy, and Liquid Policeman were initially set to all be worked on and released the same year, but there were various delays leading up to the recording of A Party of Cranes. Who knows, the other two may end up joined together as one. This is the way many of the CJ records have come together: I'd pull from a bank of about 360 song ideas (now we’re somewhere at least double that…!) and picking the ones that felt the best together.
Anyway, back to the show.
Cellophane Jane is “moving in a different direction,” folks! This show marked our last performance with bassist, studio wiz, lightsaber lover, and friend: Connor Peterson. We’ve been playing with Connor since about June 2021 when I gave him a call in a Houlihan’s parking lot.
He’s got a killer group that he fronts called Wig Doubt that he’ll be spending the majority of time on, splitting it with studio work at his space Plastic Dino that we recorded our latest EP, A Party of Cranes.

We let Connor pick the setlist as it was his last night. I’m pretty sure I picked a few out of order, but whaddayagonnado. When the Rock takes you, ya Roll.
Here’s some awful footage haha. We were havin’ some sound issues to start that I cut out, a couple as we went along, so dig it or don’t. It’s all a work in progress, folx! Here’s a couple little fun things for ya:
-I definitely referenced the solo to “Stairway to Heaven” by accident during “Fortune Teller”
-There’s a special little George Lucas approved* mashup in the middle of “Holy Water” just for Connor (*he did NOT in fact approve it)
-I’m a total thumb and forget the name of Cleveland Versus during “Beating Around the Bush” Check ‘em out. Killer non-profit supporting a good cause. Send me flyers!
Blue Antidote are a three-piece high energy punk machine. They really nail that So-Cal punk thing to the cross, dude. At one point, I was standing close-ish to the PA and thought I was gonna go deaf and explode from the INSANE amount of bass coming out of the amp. JEEZE. Loved it haha.
Listen to their latest record Remember Then HERE
The Battle are a four-piece are truly a cinematic soundscape. They played their new album ATARAXIA front to back, with little quips in between. It’s funny the difference between each bands banter, I find I often get quite snarky and sassy haha.
Check ‘em HERE !
WELL, that’s our last full band show for the year! You can catch me at the Rock Hall on Saturday 12/27 for the Beatles Fan Day doin’ a whole set of Beatles songs that I still haven’t learned yet and will definitely rush to learn at breakneck speed at 3pm. My guy Will from Factual Brains will be doing a set from 1-2pm, he’s got a list already full of deep cuts. Gotta be more like Will.
